Can we learn to multitask? Some adolescents adept at media multitasking, study says

Well, the study doesn’t say we multitask, but it does say that some adolescents become so good in task-switching (sounds less sexy than multitasking, but it is more correct) that – and this is the important part – their performances aren’t hindered. Contrary to common scientific belief that multitasking leads to poor performance,two  researchers found that maybe the opposite is true for adolescents who spend a lot of time switching between media devices and tasks.

I really, really would love reading this research, as it is contrary to most of the rest of the studies on the topic, but it’s not published in a peer reviewed journal yet. Actually, it was presented by two high school students on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference & Exhibition. And… the research does say that for the majority multitasking does hurt the performance.
